Zervas Newspaper?!

From a 4th grader in Mr. West's class:

"I think that a good addition to Zervas would be a newspaper for the school. The students would be able to write articles. Please comment if you agree!"

Also, feel free to add your own ideas as to what we could include in a Zervas Newspaper in the comments, and maybe what we could call it!

Maybe if we make the Zervas Newspaper, it will be easier for Mr. Griffin to get the message out to everybody that there is no aggressive games to be played during school and after. What do you think, Mr. Griffin?

Caroline is right. We could have a Mr. Griffin section for if he wanted to say anything, or a teacher column.

I don't really think we need a Zervas newspaper because I think that Mr. Griffin's message is clear that kids shouldn't play aggressively during or after school.

I think that the Zervas Newspaper is important because then you get to know what's going on at Zervas and you can find out about things going on at Zervas.

I totally agree! We should definitely have a newspaper. I wish we had done it before though because this is my last year. Also, there should be 2 sections. One with news, and one with student and teacher opinions.

I agree with you, I think it's a great idea to have a Zervas School newspaper. I think it could really help with problems or big news that needs to go around. I also think their could be a student column and a teacher/principal column.

A Zervas news paper would be good to get word out to the school for instance, the fifth graders will be putting on the play Oliver soon, and someone could write an article and if a teacher approves, it can be published! We could also alternate reporters every month from different grades. I think the news paper is a really great idea.

It seems that many fifth graders like the idea of a newspaper. Thank you Kathryn for the idea of putting it online because then the fifth graders could see it next year when they're at oak hill. If we can put it on a blog only able to be edited by zervas and oak hill students, then the fifth graders (future sixth graders) could be our editors, or have a column to themselves to write their own stories.

I think that a newspaper would be an awesome idea because that would give the kids a chance to write what they feel is exciting in the school at the moment.

I love all of these ideas! I hope we can get a Zervas newspaper up and running regularly starting next year. We can practice this week! Check out the bulletin board by the front lobby - I started the PBLI Pioneer (an imprint of the Zervas Zephyr). What do you guys think of that name? A zephyr is a "soft or gentle breeze", so the newspaper could be the wind of news through Zervas (we should have a slogan contest...) So many ideas!
